For carrying water it is hard to beat a recycled carbonated soft drink
bottle. They are very tough as they are designed to withstand gas
under pressure. They are food grade, they are free and they come in
different sizes. To avoid any possibly flavour carry over start with a
soda water or mineral water example. On my home scales a 1.25 litre empty coke bottle weighs only 40g. |

Camp Specialties Mini Hiking Stool 285g This is a pretty extravagant luxury for a hiker - but it might be perfect for the older hiker like me. 10 ounces total weight, 13" erect height, 3/4"diameter x 16" legs, 18"x2"x2½ folded size, blue nylon 400 denier seat top, black polyester 1000 denier seat middle, black polyester 1000 denier seat bottom, 5086 alloy aluminum legs with tensile strength near 50,000psi, hardwood dowel reinforced legs, zinc plated steel hardware, 250 lb capacity. Camp Specialties Mini Hiking Stool review: I purchased the Mini Hiking Stool directly from the Camp Specialties web site. it was a fast turnaround to get a postage quote from USA to Australia, paid with PayPal and quick delivery. I recently took my Mini Hiking Stool on a 10km through walk. I used the stool on a number of stop overs on the trek to rest and it certainly took the weight off. It is amazing piece of technology. Simple in execution, it folds to be very compact and slips into a side pocket on my backpack alongside my walking pole. This is a luxury, but from my perspective a must have one - it will stay part of my kit. I recommend this is a "must have" item. |

TEAC PR129 Pocket AM/FM Transistor radio with extender aerial. Powered by 2 AAA batteries. This is the radio I picked up to listed to the 2010 Australian Federal election results while walking at Mapleton Forest in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. I had trouble with reception but that may have been location related. It did the job and was quite light but there may be better sound/tuning quality options. Weight with batteries is a creditable 88g |
